International relations • The Postal Museum plans to access duplicate copies of the mail boxes the Hungarian Postal Service is replacing and offer them to our sister museums abroad as exchange artefacts. The material we thus collect will help us to realize an earlier idea, an exhibition called Global Postal Walk. However, implementation will definitely require successful bids for European Union grants as well as support from ministries, local governments, and professional associations. • Each year, we offer honorary copies of our yearbook to the postal museums of the world, and we too regularly receive copies of their yearbooks in return. • The Stamp Museum plans to establish contacts with the stamp museums of the world, with initial focus on European institutions. This will facilitate its research onto famous stamps and can serve as a foundation for an international exchange of experience and information. The establishment of a professional database would help to expand contacts with museums on more distant continents. • The Stamp Museum continues to maintain an excellent relationship with the Postal Museum at Banská Bystrica, Slovakia. We participate in one another’s programmes and are also thinking of setting up joint research projects, since the postal history of this region is an integral part of Hungarian postal history. Miscellaneous • It has become necessary to repair the Stamp Museum entrance door at 47 Hárfa Street, for it has become an obstacle to security. Since the building is a historical landmark, we must first call in a designer to come up with plans for repairing or replacing the door. Then we need to call on contractors to submit bids for the job, and to submit a request to the body overseeing landmark structures to complete the work. The work on the door must wait until we have all permits as well as funding. • In the case of our museums, it is very important for staff to do their work as a community. Our staff work at facilities where security and protection of valuable property are paramount features, so it is highly important for staff members to trust one another and to maintain a professional working relationship. One important element of this is to hold regular meetings, conferences, where they discuss not only their own work but that of their fellow staff members, to assure an equal sharing of the work load and to learn what each of them is involved with. They also can share ideas, which can be turned into later projects. • The foundation fully supports staff members in continuing their educations, which includes language study, particularly for younger staff members. It also supports study to become researchers. Budapest, December 6, 2007 * 228
