Mrs. Gergely Kovács Report of the Foundation of the Postal and Telecommunication Museum for 2001 Administration and Budget Management • In 2001 we revisited our rules on labour and personnel issues, and updated our job descriptions. • We were successful in bidding for grants from the Government Committee on Information Technology within the Office of the Prime Minister, and the two museums acquired substantial IT equipment. We were thus able to set up the objective and professional basis for museum hours of operation, and for updating our presentations. • There were substantial budget outlays for our priority collections operations, for renovating storage facilities, for procuring storage equipment required to conserve our artefacts, for expanding maintenance operations to include built-in furnishings, and for burglar and fire alarm systems. • Outlay that increased beyond the inflation rate involved covering higher lease and utility fees, and funding for books and publications. • Expansion of the Stamp Museum was a priority task. The Ministry of Transport and Water Management offered to transfer an area of 300 square metres for enlargement. Compared with failed initiatives of past decades this was “a historical opportunity, ” but we did not receive a financial guarantee from our founders that they would cover ensuing costs. Collections-Related Work We completed the following maintenance and renovations in our collection facilities: • The cellar and ground floor warehouses at Paulay Ede Street were completely painted. After this, we had a set of cabinets built in, and now the Postal Museum’s uniform collection is fully dust-protected. • We completed renovation of one of the warehouses in the cellar of the No 5. post office, but after it was done the post office did some drilling and line construction work in it to lay telecom cables. We expect to have our postal history operations and administration memorabilia completely moved into the two warehouses by the end of February 2002. • The Ministry of Transport and Water Management presented the Stamp Museum with a gift of the wooden cabinets built into the corridor by the minister’s office, and when these were installed our collection space increased significantly. • The roofs at the container storage facility at Gyáli Avenue were fully insulated and the facility was connected to the electric power grid. 215
