Postai és Távközlési Múzeumi Alapítvány Évkönyve, 2001
Tartalmi összefoglaló angol nyelven
It is hard to imagine the future without knowing the past, and the events of the millennium year were a chance to learn more about that past. As the entire ocean is reflected in a single drop of water, so does the history of the postal service and telecommunications reflect Hungarian and universal history. The words of recognition contained in the guest books give us the strength to continue. X Mrs. Gergely Kovács Report of the Foundation of the Postal and Telecommunication Museum for 2000 The tenth year in the life of the foundation focused far less on a retrospective analysis of its activity despite plans to do so, and far more on the day-to-day tensions and problems of renovations. When reviewing work plans, we see that many tasks affecting management and budget alike had to prolonged into 2001. Administration and Budget Management • Publication of the laws and decrees governing operations of the foundation and the museum have been hindered by delays in the publication of the decree of the two founders on mandatory archiving and of ministerial decrees in implementing the museum law. In 2000, both museums completed a comprehensive re-examination of instructions on collection management. • Development and renovation plans had to be temporarily shelved because basic expansions (Stamp Museum, Telecom Presentation Centre, Postal Museum at Balatonszemes) were not completed. • We established Honorarium Fidelitas and the first donations were made at a ceremony in Ópusztaszer, on August 16. • The foundation’s financial operations are accessible in the financial reports debated and adopted by the board of directors and board of supervisors, and in reports on internal controls. They concluded that financial management was thrifty and that there were no liquidity problems. Renovation operations in 2000 made it difficult to use monies in a planned manner, since the true condition of the buildings, which are protected by law as historical edifices, only became apparent after the structures were exposed, which forced us to call for unanticipated repairs. Investments and Restoration • The outstanding event of the year was the renovation of the Museum of Telephony and the opening of its new exhibit. This presentation of telecom services required us to install state-of-the-art equipment, and facilities with which interactive presentations can be made. 210
