In October, in connection with World Post Day events, we rearranged the annually- revised exhibition in the Rezső Soó memorial room in Debrecen, and produced a new compilation under the title The philatelic relics of the 1848-49 Revolution and War of Independence. In Budapest, we held an exhibition for stamp designer Károly Vagyóczky. In December, two talks were held at the MAFITT meeting in the stamp museum: György Csemi spoke on Temporary arrangements by the Romanian Post Office in Transylvania between 1918 and 1922 and Dr Tamás Somogyi on The first Austro-Hungarian tariff inflation in the 19th century. Júlia Kisfaludi: História domus - Postal Museum, 1998 1998 events were characterised by the production of new exhibitions and relations with other museums and public collections. At the beginning of the year our collections under­went considerable expansion. The AM-micro television transmitter from Győr was passed to the Diósd Radio and Television Museum, and in Szeged we collected some teletype frames from the dismantled telex centre. In January we held the press launch of our CD-ROM publication The history of Hun­garian radio and catalogue of receivers, produced with the support of a grant from the Ministry of Transport, Telecommunications and Water. In April, in conjunction with the National Technical Museum, we were the organisers of the 2nd National Conference of Technical Museum Curators. In May, we took part in the Museum Mayday held by the Hungarian National Museum. In a tent in the Museum garden we displayed working telecommunications equipment and as part of the Multimedia Mayday exhibition in the Museum building, we showed our radio history CD-ROM. The Chairman of the Hungarian Post Office opened our exhibi­tion 1848 letters commemorating the Revolution and War of Independence. The host of museum events for children’s day in 1998 was once again the Agricultural Museum, where we presented old working telecommunications equipment. At the conference held in Győr to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Gábor Baross’ birth, Mrs Gergely Kovács gave a lecture and the Managing Director of the Hungarian Post Office released a Baross commemorative stamp. In Budapest, the NEDIX-510 stored- program controlled telegram and data transfer centre, commissioned in 1981, was closed. We made video recordings and took photographs prior to its demolition. In July, a three-day series of events celebrated the 50th birthday of the former Pioneers’ Railway, now the Children’s Railway. For the occasion, we held an exhibition in the Csillebérc station of the museum’s pioneer-post archive material. The renovation of the new offices on the third floor of the Postal Museum started at the end of August and were completed in September. In September our Foundation held an unorthodox school year opening ceremony in Hollókő for nursery and first-year schoolchildren. Museum staff attended the conference of the Association of Central European Technical Museums (MUT) held by the National Technical Museum. 239
