MTESZ (Federation of Hungarian Scientific Societies) conference of technical museums: May 5. • Scientific sessions were held in the PKI Conference Room, adjacent to the Postal Museum, tying in with the Tele-jubilees exhibition: May 16 and 21. • The Engineers’ Extension-Training Institute of Budapest Technical University, as part of its course for technical museum staff, held course activities at the Radio and Television Museum in Diósd: May 27. • A study of the celebrated communications minister Gábor Baross was contributed to a Baross memorial volume. • The material was compiled for the CD-ROM on the history of Hungarian radio broadcasting and catalogue of radio receivers, which covers 1066 sets. • Help was given with research into factory history, for a jubilee exhibition at the Siemens Telephone Factory. • Staff took part in the work of the organizing committee for the Békésy Memorial Year. International relations • Polish and Czech postal delegations visited the Postal Museum: February 11. • Staff engaged in the planning of Slovakia’s postal museum spent three days at the Foundation’s museums: February 14 to 16. • An ICOM delegation from Dutch museums paid a visit in April. • The Postal Museum was represented at the general assembly of MUT (the Central European Union for Technical Museums) in Kosice (Kassa). • The Romanian postal minister, postal managing director and philatelists’ association chairman, and the chairman of the German philatelists’ association visited the Stamp Museum with the other delegates attending a symposium in Budapest: October 3. • The Foundation was represented at the annual conference of the IATM (International Association of Transport and Communications Museums) in Madrid: October 4—10. • Objects from the tum-of-the-century Royal Hungarian Post were lent for the opening exhibition at the new Postal and Telecommunications Museum in Trieste, Italy: November 28. • Helena Peippo, staff member at the Lahti Radio and Television Museum, Finland, paid an official visit to the Radio and Television Museum in Diósd, to explore prospects for cooperation between the two museums: November 28-9. Budapest, December 1997 Mrs János Solymosi: ‘História domus’-the Stamp Museum in 1997 The year brought several important events at the 67-year-old museum, which received several notable visitors. In January, a scientific meeting and a lecture were held at the museum. The collections were augmented by purchases and gifts. 250
