intriguing and useful contributions at exhibitions of various kinds, and since the advent of first-day covers, they have provided important accompaniments to postage stamps. There are two important adjuncts to the collection: original designs for commemorative cancelling stamps, and a collection of postmark impressions. The collection will become more accessible and easier to handle once it has been processed and stored on computer, which is scheduled to occur in 1997. Mrs János Solymosi: Classic Stamps from British Guiana This study is the first in a series covering permanent exhibits at the Stamp Museum. The classic issues of British Guiana include some world rarities. The first series, issued in 1850-51, were printed locally, at the Royal Press in Georgetown. These were followed by numerous other locally or London-printed stamps. The author dwells in more detail on a particularly rare one-cent newspaper stamp, locally produced in 1856, and its pair, a unique used cover franked with a four-cent stamp. * Mrs Gergely Kovács Plan of Action for the Foundation of the Postal and Telecommunications Museums in 1997 Management and administration The aim is to make more efficient use of human and financial resources. • As a management measure, a start must be made to exchanging rented premises and purchasing real estate being offered (Budapest VI, Andrâssy üt 3, and Balatonszemes, Bajcsy-Zsilinszky üt 46), to ease the museums’ accommodation problems. • It would be expedient to exchange the lease of the basement of Andrâssy üt 3 for a lease of the attic area. The chance of converting this has emerged in 1997, after a ban on disposal of the building was lifted. (The building no longer features on List 272 of inalienable state property.) If the rented premises are purchased and the attic converted, the space requirements of the Foundation and the Postal Museum can be met for the next fifty years. • The premises of the Balatonszemes museum have also been removed from the list of historic buildings to remain in state ownership. Purchase of the building, perhaps jointly with the local authority, should take place as soon as possible. Investors have already expressed a desire to buy this scheduled building on a large plot of land in a frequented Balaton resort. • Amendment of the deed of foundation is required, to legalize benefits in kind provided by the founders (free postal and telephone services, free use of premises, transfer of items of museum value, etc.) 317
