Postai és Távközlési Múzeumi Alapítvány Évkönyve, 1995

Rövid tartalmi összefoglaló angol nyelven

To chronicle the Stamp Museum is to recapture some invaluable moments.. The year 1995 was an anniversary. The Museum had been welcoming those interested in philately for 65 years. The events of the 365 days that stand out are those where people interested in stamps become acquainted with the Museum’s treasures through successive new thematic exhibitions. Especially interesting was the reopening of Debrecen’s Diligence Exhibition Hall on October 12. Space was found there, alongside the displays of postal and telecommunications history, for a worthy tribute to the Museum’s benefactor, Dr Rezső Soó, whose collection can be seen in the room named after him. The Stamp Museum not only gave, by guiding its visitors through the world of stamps, but received during this anniversary year. Collectors and producers of stamps alike appreciated that a full museum collection needs augmenting regularly. This intention prompted both Mrs Arundel and the State Printing Press when they enriched the Museum with valuable gifts. The Museum’s daily activities should also be chronicled. Special emphasis went on maintaining relations with the press and the media. Mrs József Papp: Chronicle of the Stamp Museum, 1995 Gabriella Nikodém: Nature ’95, Erzsébet Szekeres Exhibits at the Stamp Museum An exhibition by textile artist Erzsébet Szekeres was opened at the Stamp Museum on February 3,1995, by Dr János Tardy, Assistant State Secretary, in connection with European Nature Protection Year. Styled Nature ’95, the exhibition gathered the artist’s wall pictures, rags and rarely seen drawings, which provided a suitable background for the Museum’s events to mark the year. Water Day (March 22) was one of activities for children in the exhibition area. Groups from several primary schools arrived. Erzsébet Szekeres shared with them, in words and pictures, her thoughts on the world environment and mankind’s search for a new place in nature. After an informal tour, the children were introduced to equipment and materials for weaving, spinning and embroidery. The eventful day ended with a gala evening concert. On Earth Day (April 21), the strength and life emanating from the earth were the theme behind a talk by Ágnes Rétháti Borszéki. Under the title Our Daily Bread, she discussed reform cookery and home bread-making, and invited visitors to taste foods she had prepared. On the Day of Birds and Trees in May, Hungarian Post PLC brought out two new issues, which were launched in the exhibition area of the Museum. The stamp End of the War in Europe designed by Miklós Forgács, and the marvellous series 1995, Year of Nature Protection in Europe by Pál Varga Words of appreciation were spoken by Dr János Tardy, Assistant State Secretary, and by Dr Endre Csemák, Deputy Managing Director of Hungarian Post PLC. The special exhibition remained open until May 30, 1995. 292
