Postamester of Buda 300 Years Ago After the recapture of Buda on 02/09/1686, the first postmaster of Buda, Pietro Salgari was one of the first foreign settlers of the deserted town. The study outlines the recent researches concerning the person of the postmaster of Buda 300 years ago. Analyzing the sources, the author concluded that the first postmaster of the liberated town — whose name could be found in different forms: Salgr, Salgar, Salgari, Salgary — was of Italian origin. In his days, postal services were introduced between Buda- Pozsony (now: Bratislava) — Vienna, Székesfehérvár-Győr and Buda-Eszék. Pietro Salgari also had public functions. First, he was member of the towncouncil, the became mayor in 1688. 80
