László Vanyó: The Patristic Interpretation of 'Redemptio'
THE PATRISTIC INTERPRETATION OF ‘REDEMPTIO’ 25 eyes”.10 Clemens arrange in parallel the provision (ephodion), the teaching (hoi logoi), and the sufferings (ta pathemata). All these are equally important. He characterizes the doctrine of Christ with Prov 7,8: “You were adorned by your virtuoul and honourable citizenship and did ali things in the fear of God" . The commandments and ordianances of the Lord were “written on the tables of your heart. The doctrine consists not to present views and opinions but these are “prostagmata”, “di- kaiomata” who makes true he man. The “didaskalos” figure is not a simple remembrance for the activity of the earthly Christ, but is means the Christ of the praeexistence who through the Holy Spirit taught by the prophets in the OT.10 11 12 13 God made us holy and brought us to honour through Khristos-didaskalos.15 As he is the “one healer", in the same way “theres is the one teacher who , spoke and it come to pass’, and what he has done even in silence is worthy of the Father”14 That is: Khristos-didaskalos is identical with the divine creating Word, because Ignatius refers to the Ps 33,9 and 148,5. The Khristos-didaskalos is identical with the Logos-didaskalos, who is the Son of God who taught under Pontius Pilate by Justin.15 His formulation is the reminiscence of the creed’s formula: “passus sub Pontio Pilato”. The single Teacher, of the Cristians is Christ, while the heretics have many teachers.16 17 This thesis on the singular Teacher is almost 17 “regula fidei". The Khristos-Didaskalos is at the beginning the Word with God (Jn 1,1), Creator, life and then he appears as a Teacher, that as God He gives his life to the disciples. “This is the New Song, namely, the manifestation which has but now shined forth among us, of Him, who was in the beginning, the pre-existens Saviour appeared on earth; He who exists in God (because “the Word was with God”) appeared as our teacher; the Word 10 1 Clem 2,1 Transi.
