Abstract Through three conceptual units, the present paper formulates what the human sense of God consists in, what compels humans to believe in God, and what factors motivate them to identify themselves as beings capable of faith in God. The first section demonstrates that humans may conceive God through their reason. The pinnacle and ultimate frontier of human cognition is that one may verbalise the Infinite and the Absolute: the One who is called God. Second section contemplates the heart and the human being ‘bearing ’ that heart - a human being who is susceptible to being captivated by someone greater than him or her, as well as of being addressed by and committed to God, superior to him or her. In the third conceptual unit is discussed that human life is in need of the kind of trust and hope that may be nourished only by faith in God.
