328 SZABOLCS ANZELM SZUROMI, O.PRAEM. VI. Liturgical texts, acts and feasts Pope Francis with his apostolic letter Magnum principium on September 3rd 2017 has modified Can. 838 which deals with official translation of liturgical books.47 According to the former text the Apostolic Holy See is responsible to control the national translation of the liturgical books and approve that. The new norm gives this responsibility to the local Bishops’ Conference, which was already competent to arrange the national translations and also to add to them some supplementary local - particular - rules (CIC/1983 Can. 838 §4). Based on the new law, the national Bishops’ Conferences after the approbation of the translation have to send it for recognition and confirmation to the Holy See. The Holy Father also ordered to celebrate the Sunday of Devine Word on the third Sunday in Ordinary Time, by his Motu Proprio Aperuit illis on September 30th 2019, which suppresses the former Holy Scripture Sunday.48 The Congregation for Divine Worship based on the direction of Pope Francis ordered with a new decree on May 1st 201349, that without any delay is mandatory to insert into the Second and Third Eucharistic Prayers of the Roman Missal a supplement: “Saint Joseph, spouse of the Holy Virgin Mary” - means: “and with St. Joseph, her spouse”. There are two other decisions by Pope Francis concerning different days of memorial. The first one is the memorial of Saint Mary Magdalene which has been elevated to be feast (festum) in the Roman General Liturgical Calendar. The Congregation for Devine Worship promulgated this decree based on the expressive request of the Holy Father, on June 3rd 2016.50 The second one is ordering to dedicate Pentecost Monday as memorial to the Blessed Virgin Marry as Mother of the Church. It is also by the initiative of Pope Francis, and promulgated by the afore-mentioned Congregation on February 11th 2018.51 The Holy Father also instructed the Congregation based on his decision that in the future the so called ‘maundy’ on Holy Thursday52, besides men, women can licitly participate too. It appeared in decree In Missa in Cena Domini on January 6th 2016.53 47 Franciscus, M.P.
