Introduction

On May 31st - June 1st 2018 the Université la Sagesse, in Beirut (Lebanon), organized an international canon law conference, entitled: “Franipois, Législateur” (Francis the legislator).1 The conference was distributed into four sessions and the first of them dealt in general with Pope Francis’ legislative activity (explained by Boris Bemabé from Paris, Manuel Jesús Arroba Conde from Rome, and Patrick Valdrini from Paris)1 2. Nevertheless, the last session was dedicated to the evaluation and originality of Pope Francis’ legislation, with particular emphasis on the Orthodox - Catholic relations, the application of mercy - ‘misericordia’ - within the canonical system, and the interpretation of synodality (i.e. Grégoir Papathomas from Institut Saint-Serge, Bruno Gon- 9alves from Paris, and Cédric Burgun, also from Paris)3.
