48 SZABOLCS ANZELM SZUROMI, O.PRAEM. with dark. The document therefore not only sad description of the current situation. not only a list of phrases, but intends to open the gate for light to make the world again bright, through the scientific analysis, settled strategies, responsibility for the future and above all: consecrating this mission with prayers, asking intercession for the good of people. I. Between September 3rJ and 6,h 2017 took place in Budapest the joint conference of the Academia Europeae and the European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities, hosted by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. This joint conference was entitled: Sustainability and Resilience. Two plenary sessions had been particularly dedicated to the climate, environment, water, economy, resources, energy and the so called “future Earth” questions. Here I would like to refer only few noteworthy topics, i.e. “Some environmental and social impacts of climate change on the water cycle: from scarcity to submersion” (by Georges Vachaud); “The physical, biological and chemical fingerprint of melting ice” (by Kate Hendry); “On efficiency of our industrial system as stakeholder in our natural system” (by Steve Evans); "The impacts of climate change in human health: a global bidirectional challenge” (by Joseph María Antó); “Dealing with conflicting view on global warming” (by Frederick van der Ploeg); and finally “ Sustainability and resilience: Linkages to demography (by Paul Demeny).3 The listed themes represent well the main focus of the academic research programs on the different aspects of the general used expression “sustainability”. Nevertheless, the titles - and the contents of these presentations - also give a clear overview on the emphasis, theories and methods of the mean- stream scientific approach. However, if we take a glance at the Encyclical Letter of Pope Frances, the real question is much more complex, which covers every element of correlations, decisions and actions among human being - society - Earth. We cannot forget to mention here the so called second and third nature, but the moral and ethical level of every single aspect and element too. Pope Francis says: “The urgent challenge to protect our common home includes a concern to bring the whole human family together to seek a sustainable and integral development, for we know that things can change. The Creator does not abandon us; he never forsakes his loving plan or repents of having created us. Humanity still has the ability to work together in building our common home. Here 1 want to recognize, encourage and thank all those striving in countless ways to guarantee the protection of the home which we share. Particular appreciation is owed to those who tirelessly seek to resolve the tragic effects of 3 AE - ALLEA - YAE Annual Conference 2017: Sustainability and Resilience (Budapest, MTA, 3-6 September 2017).
