tivities are represented well by the works of Ádám Somorjai2, Gábor Adriányi3 and Margit Balogh4. Nevertheless, based on a circumspect analysis this theme is still too sensitive for the objective evaluation and the scientific explanations are determined by many emotions which render more difficult the fair-minded descriptions of the facts. Therefore, here I do not intend to give a summarizing overview on this recent scientific activity and its different results, but to draw a description on the certain facts which can enlighten the really existing Catholic resistance against the communist intervention into the Church’ daily life in Hungary between 1947 and 1971 (with particular focus on 1956). Obviously, the most emblematic figure of this resistance was Joseph Card. Mindszenty, like Josef Card. Beran (archbishop of Praha, 14969), Aloisius Viktor Card. Stepinac. (archbishop of Zagreb, 14960), Stephan Card. Wyszynski (archbishop of Warsaw, 14981), and Josyf Card. Slipyj-Kobernyckyj-Dyckovskyj (metropolitan of Lemberg, f 1984) in the Central- and Eastern European countries.5
