SACRA THEOLOGIA - László Perendy, Athenagoras on the Triune God of Christians

68 PERENDY LÁSZLÓ authors do, how the history of dogma would have developed if he had exercised more influence on theologians in the third and early fourth centuries.1 The Arethas codex was copied between September 913 and August 914 by Baanes, the notarios of Arethas, the archbishop of Caesarea in Cappadocia. Unfortunately, Arethas frequently erased the text copied by Baanes in order to introduce his own corrections and emendations, which are mostly arbitrary. As both of them used the same ink and their hands are similar, it is very difficult, sometimes impossible, to distinguish them. The text of the De resurrectione supposes a different text tradition, and it did not suffer so much as that of the Legatio. It seems obvious that they had a separate history before they were included in Parisinus graec. 451. Also because they are different in vocabulary, style, and theology, several scholars (e.g., Robert M. Grant, Horacio E. Lona, William R. Schoedel, David T. Runia) suppose that the De resurrectione was in fact written later to attack Origenist views on the resurrection of the dead. Bernard Pouderon and others, however, accept the authenticity of the De resurrectione.2 The dispute has not been settled yet, as neither group of scholars seems 1 See Schoedel, W.
