SACRA THEOLOGIA - Mihály Kránitz, Theology of inculturation among churches at the beginning of the 21"' century and the role of the Catholic Theological Institutions
14 MIHÁLY KRANITZ ferent churches and religions. This attitude is related Charta Oecumenica, signed by different religious leaders in Europe in 2001 in Strasbourg. This document emphasizes that in Europe Eastern religions and new religious communities are spreading, and also attracting of interest of many Christians. It is important, that European Christians commit themselves to recognize the freedom of religion and conscience of these individuals and communities.16 Ten years ago the two great ecumenical organizations have decided to be open to dialogue with all persons of goodwill, to pursue with them matters of common concern. The Magisterium, and especially the Congregation for Catholic Education, the Pontifical Council for the Laity and Pontifical Council for Culture have delivered booklet the Presence of the Church in the University and in University Culture. In 1994 this document mentions an urgent need, that the synthesis between culture and faith is a necessity not only for culture, but also for faith. Concretely, the Church’s presence and mission in university culture take varied and complementary forms.17 The situation of the Catholic theological institutions is not easy in the country, which were or still are subjected to a materialistic and atheistic ideology, especially in the fields of the human sciences, of philosophy and history (of religion).18 The Church must not forget that her action is carried out in the particular situation of each university Centre and that her presence in the University is a service rendered to the people concerned in their two-fold dimension: personal and social. The type of presence is therefore different in each country, which bears the marks of its historical, cultural, religious and legislative tradition.19 There are great efforts, how Catholic University and especially a Catholic theological institution is capable to realize together its characteristics as “University” and as “Catholic”. Remembering about his original mission, the Catholic University must study the grave problems of the day and propose solutions that express the religious and ethical values proper to a Christian vision of the human person.20 The document on the ecclesial responsibility deal16 Conference of European Churches and the Council of European Bishop’s Conferences, Charta Oecumenica.
