CANON LAW HANDBOOK BY IVO OF CHARTRES 101 and other texts from the Council of Lateran III (1179).43 In our opinion, the BN lat. 2472 very probable rose in the territory of the Diocese of Reims and it can explain this particular supplement at the end of the codex. The condition of the parchments clearly indicates daily usage at some parishes, especially in the parts concerning the administration of baptism and other sacraments.44 We would like to refer also to the Edinburgh, National Library of Scotland, Adv. Ms. 18.8.6.45 This manuscript ends with a quotation from the Second Lateran Council (1139), canons 2-8.46 If we turn to the textual witnesses of the Decretum, among them we can find the Cambridge, Corpus Christi College Ms. 19, wherein are situated many canons after the usual ending of Book 17.47 In this material we can recognize some canons from the Council of Lateran II; Pope Urban II (1088-1099); Pope Paschal II (1099-1118); and from other authors. Based on the above mentioned examples, it is clear that for the day — today practice, it was necessary to add to the text the most important new decretals and conciliar canons, especially from the ecumenical councils (e.g., C. Lateran II-III), and moreover, the new proper discipline of any particular territory (e.g., Council of Reims). These new canons were useful not only at the episcopal court, but also for upright priestly life. consuevit attenta consideratione defendere, et quod devium invenitur esse devitare: praesentis decreti auctoritatae praecipimus, ut nullus omnino hominum haeresiarchas et eorum sequaces, qui in partibus Guasconiae, aut Provinciae, vel alibi commorantur, manuteneat vel defendat: nec aliquis eis in terra sua receptaculum praebet.
