STUDIES - Szabolcs Anzelm Szuromi: Patristic Texts in the Collectio Canonum Anselmi Lucensis (Recension 'a') and their Correspondence with the Decretum Gratiani

74 SZABOLCS ANZELM SZUROMI 1. The Augustine ’s canons It seems clearly from the contents of Anselm 's Collection, that the most cited patristic author is St. Augustine. We can say generally about the theological works of St. Augustine,16 that those had made the greatest influence on the Medieval canon law collections,17 18 cf. Decretum Burchardi Wormatiensis\xi the works of Ivo of Chartres;19 and the Decretum Gratiani.20 Each of them has numerous canons from the writings of St. Augustine. Most of his canons could be found in Book 9 {De sacramentis)-, Book 10 (De coniugiis); and in Book 11 (De poenitentia) of Anselm ’s Collection. Therefore, his texts deal mainly with the sacramental questions and give them a strong theological background. Especially Book 10 and Book 11 contain the most necessary disciplinary material for Ans. 7.
