Dr. Judit Erőss took her biologist's diploma from the Faculty of Natural Sciences of "Loránd Eötvös" University of Arts and Sciences of Budapest in 1961. The main field of her research activity spanning a period of more than 30 years was the control of mosquitoes and flies. It is her outstanding merit that she was constantly looking for possibilities of modern biological insect control throughout her career, and always gave priority to such up-to-date approaches. It was during that period that she defended her university doctoral thesis entitled "Mites breeding in manure as biological agents applicable against fly larvae". In the period 1972 through 1981 she first worked in the Plant Protection and Quarantine Laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, and then at the G. Between 1981 and 1987 Dr. Judit Erőss was responsible for the co-ordination of activities related to insect and rodent control and disinfection at the Epidemiology Department of the Public Health and Epidemiology Station of Pest County. Her principal task was associated with the biting mosquito and tick control activities conducted in the county. From 1987 up to her death she worked at the Disinfection Department of the Metropolitan Institute of the National Public Health and Medical Officer Service. Her duties included the performance of laboratory tests related to insect and rodent control, and teaching at training courses for sanitary pest control technicians ("gassing technicians") and sanitary-disinfection technicians. Here also, her responsibilities were focused on the organisation and supervision of mosquito and tick control. Dr. Judit Erőss was an active and beloved member of both the Hungarian Society of Parasitologists and the Society for Vector Ecology (SOVE) based in the United
