Veterinary Journal) in 1949. He learned the art of high-standard scientific journalism from Professor Sándor Kotlán. Editing gradually came into prominence within Ferenc Hollo's curriculum: up to 1961 he acted as editor, and from that time until his death as editor-in-chief of the journal. With his deep professional commitment, refined flair for diplomacy, and personal style facilitating the resolution of conflicts he managed to shape the journal so that it always addressed timely problems of the veterinary profession and professional policy. Owing to his high-standard editorial work, Ferenc Holló has made his mark in the history of Hungarian veterinary technical journalism for ever. Dr. Holló actively participated in the scientific public life. He was a founding member of the Hungarian Society of Parasitologists (HSP) established in 1964, and an industrious member of the Presidium of the HSP. He was member also of the Presidium of the Hungarian Veterinary Association. He was decorated with the Bronze Medal (1968) and Silver Medal (1978) of the Order of Work, the "Ferenc Hutyra" Memorial Medal (1976), the Commemorative Medal of the HSP (1977), and the "Sándor Tolnay" Prize (1994). As an enthusiastic supporter of the international co-operation between the editors of veterinary journals, he played an active role in the European Association of Veterinary Editors, and cultivated friendly relations with the editors of sister journals and veterinary professionals. This was recognized by granting him the "Preis der Baden-Badener Fortbildungstage" posthumously in 1998. His editorial work was a major contribution to the preparation of the international conferences organized by the HSP in Budapest (9th WAAVP Conference in 1981 and EMOP V in 1988) as well as to the success of many national parasitological scientific meetings. He was a just person who had a high opinion of friendship and team-spirit. He liked to discover values and positive properties in others and was happy if he could show his appreciation for them. We will miss him as a good friend, a true colleague, and we will miss his genial and warm humanity. Kassai, T.: In memóriám Holló Ferenc (1923-1997) Dr. Holló Ferenc 1997. december 5-én bekövetkezett hirtelen halálával jelentős, fájdalmas veszteség érte a magyar parazitológiát. A magyar parazitológusok nesztorát alkotóereje és alkotó kedve teljében ragadta el az élők sorából egy váratlanul rátört szívroham. Jászberényben született 1923. augusztus 26-án. Állatorvosdoktori oklevelét kórbonctani-parazitológiai tárgyú értekezésével 1949-ben szerezte meg. Pályájának kezdeti szakaszában a Kotlán-iskola lelkes tagjaként a parazitológia területén specializálódott. Nyolc évig dolgozott az Országos Állategészségügyi Intézet parazitológiai osztályán, majd az Állatorvostudományi Egyetem parazitológiai tanszékén 1960-ban megalakult helmintológiai kutató laboratórium tudományos munkatársa lett. A sertés tüdőférgességéről írt kandidátusi értekezése alapján 1965-ben nyerte el a kandidátusi címet. 1980-tól két és fél éven át a FAO/UNDP parazitológus szakértőjeként Algériában tevékenykedett, és létrehozta az ország első állatorvosi parazitológiai diagnosztikai laboratóriumát. A „Trópusi parazitózisok" c. fakultatív tárgy előadójaként címzetes egyetemi tanári minősítést szerzett az Állatorvostudományi Egyetemen.
