The large hooks are 0.195 to 0.234 mm long (n=46, mean 0.222), the handle is 0.118 to 0.143 long (mean 0.131), the guard is 0.083 to 0.093 long (mean 0.089), the basis is 0.156 to 0.184 mm long (mean 0.169). The small hooks are 0.118 to 0.149 mm long (n=46, mean 0.133), the handle is 0.056 to 0.078 mm long (mean 0.065), the guard is 0.056 to 0.070 mm long (mean 0.063), the basis is 0.090 to 0.112 mm long (mean 0.102). The ventral end of the bifid small hooks ranges 0.046 to 0.050 mm in diameter. Note: Linear measurements of the hooks of T parenchymatosa are very similar to the hooks of T hydatigena, T. kotlani sp. n. and other taeniids as well (Table 2). T parenchymatosa differs from all of them on the basis of the strongly developed guard of the large hooks (Figs 10 A-F, Table 1). Adult: The definite hosts of this species are foxes, Alopex lagopus and Vulpes vulpes (Tbkobaev 1976). Dokhnova and Bessonov (1987) reported on the high prevalence (21.9 per cent) of adult specimens recovered from wolves and dogs on the Chukotka Peninsula. According to Brzeskii (1962-63), this medium size taeniid is 35 to 111 cm long, the number of the proglottides is 310 to 420. Diameter of the scolex is 1.034 to 1.636 mm, the rostellum is 0.268 to 0.588 mm wide. The four suckers are 0.300 to 0.432 mm in diameter. Rostellum is armed with 32 to 34 hooks (diameter of that is 0.405 to 0.546 mm) in two circles. The large hooks are 0.210 to 0.228 mm long, the small ones are 0.124 to 0.145 mm long. There are 340 to 419 testes in the mature proglottids, becoming confluent in the anterior margin and in the poral and aporal part of the medullar parenchyma. They are absent only from the posterior margin of the proglottides, behind the vitelline gland (Fig. 6 G). Measurements of the cirrus pouch range from 0.382 to 0.460 x 0.084 to 0.145 mm. The two lobes of the ovary are of nearly equal size. The vaginal sphincter may be present (Brzeskii has not described it, but one can suspect a vaginal sphincter in the region where the vagina falls into the atrium genitale). The number of the uterus branches are 9 to 10. Taenia hydatigena Pallas, 1766from Hungary Metacestodes: The intermediate hosts are wild boar (Sus scrofa), roe deer (Capreolus capreolus), red deer (Cervus elaphus), fallow deer (Dama dama), mouflon (Ovis musimon) in Hungary. It is also frequent in domestic animals. Prevalences in intermediate hosts studied in Hungary (see Murai and Sugár 1979 for review) are: wild boar 43.2 per cent, roe deer 18.1 per cent, red deer 35.7 per cent, fallow deer 20.0 per cent, mouflon 5.3 per cent. Intensity of Cysticercus tenuicollis: 1 to 25 metacestodes in one intermediate host. Location in the intermediate hosts: Abdominal cavity, most often on the serous membranes of the mesenterium (omentum), rarely on the surface of the liver, in the region of the pelvis, in the pericardium between the aortae. Diagnosis: The yellowish-white bladder of the thin-necked bladderworm is enclosed in a globular or egg-shaped transparent capsule with a size of a walnut or an apple. Size of the bladders depends on the size of intermediate host as well as intensity
