MATERIALS AND METHODS The examined specimens of the genus Molinostrongylus are from the Collection of the Institute of Parasitology, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia. Part of the nematode specimens studied were collected by Yanchev and Stoykova (1973) from 317 bat specimens belonging to 17 species. The exact geographic localities of those bats are described in the above-cited publication. The rest of the material includes nematodes collected in the period through 1971-1983 at the examination of 161 bats belonging to 12 species from the Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo and Sofia regions. Molinostrongylus spp. have been found in 110 bats belonging to 5 species. Metrical and meristic characteristics are given as the range (min - max), the mean (av) and the number of measurements or counts taken (n). The dimensions are in micrometers except where stated otherwise. The nomenclature of the hosts is after Görner and Hackethal (1987). RESULTS MOLINEIDAE Durette-Desset and Chabaud, 1977 Molinostrongylus Skarbilovitch, 1934 Molinostrongylus alatus (Ortlepp, 1932) Skarbilovitch, 1934 Hosts:Afvorw myotis (Borkhausen) - 65.21%. Intensity of infection 1-28. Myotis bbythi (Monticelli) - 46.66%. Intensity of infection 1-45. Location: small intestine. Distribution in Bulgaria: Sofia, Vratsa, Lovetch, Plovdiv, and Pazardjik regions. Redescription (based on 9 male and 8 female specimens from Myotis myotis, Sofia region, and 4 male and 3 female specimens from Myotis bbythi from regions of Sofia, Plovdiv and Smolyan): Small straight nematodes with transversely and longitudinally striated cuticle. Apically two amphids, 6 labial and 6 cephalic papillae (Fig. 1H). Deirids situated laterally at same level, approximately at middle of oesophagus. Nerve ring situated between deirids and cephalic extremity. Synlophe: In both sexes, with 8 longitudinal cuticular ridges: 3 small ventral, 3 small dorsal and two large lateral alae; alae measuring 17-23 x 10-12 (av. 20.4 x 11.5, n=9). Ridges extend from level posteriorly to cephalic vesicle to level anteriorly to bursa of males or to level between vulva and anus of females (Fig. ID). Male: Body length 3.36-3.80 mm (av. 3.54 mm, n = 13). Width at anterior end 22-30 (av. 26, n=13), at midbody 72-86 (av. 75, n=13). Cephalic vesicle measuring 38-40 x 30-32 (av. 38.5 x 31, n= 13). Oesophagus 380-400 (av. 387, n= 13) long. Nerve ring, excretory pore and deirids situated at 86-96 (av. 90, n=4), 140-145 (av. 142, n=5), and 145-148 (av. 146, n=5), respectively, from anterior body end. Two prebursal papillae. Bursa symmetrical, trilobed, measuring 120-172 x 165-172 (av. 149 x 169, n=6) (Fig. IE). Numerous chitin spines of various size situated on medial side of bursal membrane around ventral and lateral rays. Dorsal ray distally bifurcated; each branch additionally divided into three smaller branches, inner branches bigger than
