nesting practically exclusively on the ground (C. garei, 0.28 %, C. hirundinae, 0.48 % and C. enefdeae, 0.04 %), a species considered a parasite of ravenid birds (Corvidae). The incidence of the species C. hirundinis may be explained by the fact that the material from dormouse nests comes from recreational resorts. Pormice may be assumed to have frequented swallow's nests (Delichon urbica) for nutritional reasons. Their occurrence in dormouse nests may be put down as sporadic, or even isolated, except for the species M turbidus which is relatively abundant on all the hosts monitored. It constituted 99.5 % of the fleas of small mammals. It is worth mentioning that it was most prevalent in coniferous forests. They appear in dormouse nests mainly during the autumn months (September October), at a time when dormice still occupy summer nests but already look for refuges (conditions) for hibernation. This results from the autumn vertical migration, and also indicates that dormice have a contact - and a striking one - with small mammals. They thus constitute a contact group (as regards fleas) between birds and small mammals (as has already been reported for C. sciurorum). Seasonal occurence The abundance pattern of fleas in dormice nests shows considerable fluctuation during the year. A striking maximum was recorded in April when it amounted to four
