In places which are cleaned properly and regularly, fly emergence Is Improbable since manure is removed from the stables. PAPP (1975) called attention to the fact that breeding sites form a low ratio of the stable floor surface; this was why treatments against larvae seemed promising. An experiment aimed at surveying the fly breeding sites and control spraying with Methoprene was performed by EROS et al. (1977> in pig farrowing boxes, fattening pens and in a heifer stable. The compound used proved extremely effective in every type of stable (very few fly hatched out from samples taken on the treated sites). a: boxes; b: paddocks } c: hayracks; d: drinking troughs Fig. 1. The calf house was divided into 10 boxes with a joining paddock with concrete floor. The thick straw bedding applied inside remained there for about a month. Manure was removed from the paddocks every day. There were 10-15 calves in a box. All three cow barns had the same construction (50-50 stalls in two lines, concrete floor, central feeding way, self-drinkers, dung-conduit). Cows were tied up in the barn only during milking and feeding, otherwise they were staying in an outdoor confine 80-100 meters away from the barns. Manure was removed from the cow barns and carried away every day„ Sampling The first sampling took place on 1 June, 1984. Samples were taken from places which were hardly cleanable as well as from places where feed waste and/or manure were accumulated.
