Loxuran AMPOULES FOR VET. USE brand of diethylcarbamazine citrate INDICATION Dictyocaulosis of cattle, sheep and goat, DOSAGE The single dose amounts to 20 mg. of diethylcarbamazine citrate per kg. of body weight. To cattle: 5 ml. /100 kg. of body weight (in severe cases 10 ml.) intramuscularly. To sheep and goats: 0.5 ml. per 10 kg. of body weight Loxuran amp. , intramuscularly. The treatment should be repeated on the second day in all cases, in severe cases even on the third day. Considering the pathological importance of helminths' developmental forms, further the efficiency of the drug it is important to begin the treatment by Loxuran at the first demonstration of larvae from faeces or at the observation of the first clinical symptoms of dictyocaulosis. It is worth to note that cattle dictyocaulosis appears usually at the end of summer and at the beginning of autumn, respectively, while sheep dictyocaulosis occurs during of July and August in form of severe mass diseases. For the sake of eliminating dictyocaulosis it is advisable to treat by Loxuran not only the infected (positive faeces findings!), but also stocks not showing any clinical symptoms, first of all before stabling or putting to pasture. In belated cases (severe symptoms of the respiratory organs, excessive loss of weight, etc.) no full recovery can be expected from Loxuran because of irreversible organic changes.
