The mice consumed 4 .8 g food per animal per day. Albendazole concentration was 49?. This hardly differs from the 5.0 g per mouse per day consumption of the control group. Consequently, the albendazole content of consumed food corresponded to a 200 mg/kg body weight/day dose (0-49? deviation). Both the control coprological examinations and autopsy of 100 mice 5 days after the completion of treatment yielded negative results, i.e. all the mouse strains were .free of worms and ova. Although mice were treated with high doses of the anthelminthic, there was no subsequent decrease in animal production. Aspiculuris tetraptera infestation of the mouse strains was probably due to the imperfect sterilization of the shavings. We may conclude that by means of oral administration of albendazole the Aspiculuris tetraptera infestation of an experimental mouse stock can effectively be eliminated. The compound preserves its effectiveness when mixed in adequate concentration with the standard diet. The animals readily consume this sort of food. In order to avoid any possible side effects or interference with further carcinogenic or chemotherapeutic studies we only used animals conceived after the anthelminthic therapy. It should be pointed out that for oncopathological purposes the sterilization of the bedding, just as regular coprological control examination of the animals are indispensable in an institute specified for such studies . REFERENCES 1.
