Dr. Murai Éva szerk.: Parasitologia Hungarica 14. (Budapest, 1982)

The scope of his scientific investigations ranges from arachnoentomology (trombiculid mites, sarcoptic mange, hypodermatosis) to many fields of helminthology (fasciolosis, paramphystomosis, echinococcosis, amidostomosis, trichostrongylidosis, ascaridosis, toxocarosis, etc.). He had a wide scope of interest: besides his studies on morphological and biological features of the parasites, he was concerned also in the epidemiology of parasitic infections of the livestock and in the elaboration of effective and economic methods of control applicable in large scale farming conditions. Of his results those concerning the epidemiology of liver-fluke disease in Hungary, amidostomosis of the goose, echinococcosis of the dog, and as well as his contribution to the elaboration of the complex method of control of bovine hypodermatosis, the examination of the migration pattern of Toxocara larvae in paratenic hosts have become internationally known. The results of his research work were published in nearly 60 original publications . Under his supervision several foreign and Hungarian post-graduate students have accomplished their work for a scientific degree. Since Acta veterinaria hungarica was founded (1951) he had been its technical editor. Besides, he was member of the editorial board of Parasitologia hungarica and of Helminthologia, Folia parasitologica and Angewandte Parasitologic . He has been member of the presidium of the Hungarian Society of Parasitologists since its foundation, and this indicates his non-expiring involvement in public matters of home parasitology. His initiatives, proposals, his organising activities contributed a great deal to the HSP in meeting its tasks. For long years he had been one of the leading personalities of the Hungarian Veterinary Association. Between 1973 and 1978 he was its secretary then its vice-chairman. In these, the appreciation of the Hungarian veterinarians towards Professor KOBULEJ was expressed. His personality and work is well-known also in the international professional circles. This can be attributed, among others, also to his remarkable knowledge of languages; he speaks Hungarian, Russian, Ukrainian, Czech, German and English. Since 1975 he has been one of the vice-chairmen of the World Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology. On the other hand, he is honorary member of the Ail-Union Society of Helminthologists, the Czechoslovak Parasitological Society, and the Parasitolofrical Society of the German Democratic Republic. Being an active member of the Party since 1945, he had been playing - especially at the beginning of the fifties - an important part in the political life of the Veterinary University. He has merits in intensifying and maintaining the international relations of the University, especially in cultivating the Soviet and Hungarian co-operation. For many years he had not only organised the scientific co-operation of Soviet and Hungarian parasitologists, and regular exchange of experts, but also took part in the preparatory work of some 10 bilateral meetings on drug therapy held in the USSR. He is member of the board of *he Soviet-Hungarian Friendship Society, as well as an enthusiastic furtherer of the branch group of that Society within the Veterinary University. On the 30th anniversary of the Hungaro-Soviet Scientific and Technical Co-operation (1979) he was awarded for his work in this domain. Professor KOBULEJ' s friends, colleagues and students are well aware of the riches of his character, his responsiveness to the events happening around him, his helpfulness, his attraction to the jolly moments of friendly relationships. Tibor KOBULEJ is a man devoted to action. It was his eagerness to act and his vigour what assisted him to recover from his heart attacks in recent years. It is believed that the retirement will relieve Professor KOBULEJ of the inconveniences of overwork. We wish him strength, firm health, long lasting capability to enjoy life, and, besides that, to contribute further to the progress of parasitology. Received: 12 Juny, 1982.
