Commonwealth Agricultural Bureaux, Farnham Royal, Bucks, England 1979. pp. 108. (Technical Communication No. 49 of the Commonwealth Institute of Helminthology. ) It is a true pleasure of the recense to announce the appearance of the first Russian-English dictionary of helminthology. Primarily, the dictionary was intended for scientific translators and abstractors, for professional linguists and research workers of helminthology. However, it may achieve success also among experts who know Russian and are learning English. It is of great interest also in a number of East-European countries, where research workers are well aware that an adequate knowledge of both Russian and English languages is a prerequisite to enable them to follow recent publications and to become active participants of scientific discussions in the East and West. The over 6000 entries of the book cover veterinary, medical and zoological as well as plant nematological terms. Besides terms in frequent use, also less commonly used terms are included. The dictionary was compiled with great care and proficiency. For example, under the term "host" 33 termini are given. At instances where terms are used in the Russian and English literature in different senses (such as the terms of obligatory and facultative hosts), or where the corresponding Russian and English versions of a term are lacking, instead of simple direct translation it is attempted to bridge the variations in their interpretation by describing the term in adequate details. If a term has been used in the Russian literature in different senses, these are interpreted simultaneously with appropriate references. The dictionary includes also the names of helminthoses and of the most important anthelmintics used in the USSR. Useful is also the section of the dictionary in which the full names and their translations of those relevant agricultural institutions and laboratories are given which are frequently referred to in the Russian literature by their abbreviated forms e. g. VASHNIL, VIGIS, VIEW, VOG, GELAN, etc. It is almost certain that scientific workers concerned in helminthology, nematology, general parasitology, medical and veterinary sciences, zoology, ecology, immunology and phytopathology, or linguists with little specialist knowledge but involved in translating helminthological texts from Russian will find a most helpful and reliable aid in this dictionary. A recenzens őszinte öröme, hogy az első orosz-angol helmintológiai szótár megjelenéséről adhat hirt. A Szerző munkájával elsősorban a szakszövegeket oroszról angolra átültető fordítóknak, kivonat-készítőknek, nyelvészeknek és kutatóknak a dolgát kívánta megkönnyíteni a szótár összeállításával. A mű azonban mindenütt sikerre számíthat az orosz anyanyelvű és angolul tanuló szakemberek körében is, különösen pedig Kelet-Európának azokban a kisebb országaiban, amelyeknek a kutatói csak az orosz és az angol szaknyelv kellő ismerete birtokában remélhetik, hogy frissen követni tudják a szakirodalmat és hogy a nemzetközi szakmai fórumok eseményeinek - keleten és nyugaton egyaránt - vitaképes, cselekvő résztvevői lehetnek. A könyv több mint 6000 címszava az állatorvosi, orvosi, zoológiai vonatkozású kifejezések mellett a fitohelmintológiai terminusokat is felöleli. A gyakran használt szavakon kívül sok ritkábban használt kifejezést is tartalmaz. A szerző alapos munkáját és szakmai igényességét szeretném érzékeltetni annak a megemlítésével, hogy pl. egyedül a szótár "gazda"
