Parasit Hung. 12. 1979. Eimeria macrosculpta sp. n. (Protozoa, Coccidia) from European Hare (Lepus europaeus Pallas) in Hungary Dr. László SUGÁR University of Agricultural Sciences, Gödöllő, Game Biology Research Station, Budakeszi "Eimeria macrosculpta sp.n. (Protozoa, Coccidia) from european hare (Lepus europaeus PaUas) in Hungary 11 - Sugár, L. - Parasit. Hung. 12. 9. 10. 1979. ABSTRACT. A new intestinal coccidium occurring in the European hare in Hungary is described under the name Eimeria macrosculpta sp. n. Of the intestinal coccidia of the European hare, the Eimeria (E. ) leporis was first described by NIESCHULZ in 1923. Later the species E. magna var, robertsoni and E. magna var. robertsoni forma semisculpta were described by MAD SEN in 1938. In 1943 CARVALHO characterized E. robertsoni as an independent species, and described E. magna forma townsendi . In 1956 PELLÉRDY described E. europaea and E. hungarica, and declared E. semisculpta as an independent species. As far as we know, in the meantime three additional hare coccidia were described, i.e. E. stefanskii Pasztuszko, 1961, E. belorussica Litvenkova, 1969, and E. babatica Sugár, 1978. In addition to the above mentioned, the European hare revealed the presence of E. septentrionalis Yakimoff, Matschoulsky et Spartansky, 1936 (KUTZER and FREY, 1976) and E. sculpta Madsen, 1938 (SUGÁR et al., 1978).
