Distance of vulva 0. 38-0. 42 mm, that of anus 0. 075-0. 088 mm from posterior end. Tail with terminal spike. Eggs 0. 062-0. 072 mm long by 0.040-0.050 mm wide. Species of genus Heligmosomoides Hall, 1916 are the parasites of Holarctic Microtinae and Muridae, as well as of Palaearctic Cricetinae and Spalacidae. H, Iaevis occurs only in the Palaearctic region, distributin in Central and Western Europe (DURETTE-DESSET, 1967), Systematic position and synonyms of the species were clarified by DURETTE-DESSET (1968a, 1971). In the following review of data regarding distribution and host range, the species mentioned Heligmosomum polygyrum (Duj., 1845) - lacking descriptions and drawings related to that species - will be considered as H. Iaevis (Duj. , 1845) sensu Durette-Desset, 1971, because Heligmosomoides polygyrus (Duj., 1845) Boulenger, 1922 is the junior synonym of Heligmo somoides Iaevis (Duj., 1845) as it was pointed out by DURETTE-DESSET (1971). Tha bursa of H. Iaevis is symmetrical and the species is primarily the parasite of Microtinae. On the other hand Heligmosomum polygyrum (Duj. , 1845) Railliet et Henry, 1909 is the junior synonym of Heligmosomoides polygyrus polygyrus (Duj., 1845) sensu Durette-Desset, 1971, The bursa of this latter is asymmetrical, and the species is the parasite of Muridae. However, the consequent use of this nomenclature When reviewing literary data would give rise further confusions. Most authors listed below used the handbook of SKRJABIN et al. (1954) as a basic source of reference. In this book (pp. 83-84) the name Heligmosomum polygyrum (Duj. , 1B45) Railliet et Henry, 1909 is combined will the description and figures of Heligmosomoides polygyrus (Duj. , 1845) Boulenger, 1922, as given by SCHULZ (1926). According to the view of DURETTE-DESSET (1971) the description and figures fit well to H. Iaevis. In that handbook "small Heligmosomum" (Heligmosomoides polygyrus polygyrus (Duj. , 1845) sensu Durette-Desset, 1971) with asymmetrical bursa is mentioned as Heligmosomum skrjabini (Schulz, 192 6).
