ABSTRACT. Hymenolepis sulcata (von Linstow, 1879) is reported for the first time in Hungary from Glis glis (Rodentia). The material is described and taxonomic position of the species is discussed. In the course of helminthological examination of dormice (Glis glis) in Hungary a total of 11 specimens, originating from different localities, were dissected. Of them a single specimen was infected witfa Hymenolepis sulcata . The discription of the cestode species, new for the faufta of Hungary, is given below. Hymenolepis sulcata (von Linstow, 1879) Host and locality: Glis glis, Buda Hills, Telki, 22 June, 1973. Localization: small intestine. Intensity: 5 specimens. Description: Small-sized Hymenolepidid. Length of the mature worms 45-55 mm, maximum width 0, 7 mm. Edges of the strobila are serrate. Young segments are 4 times wider than long, mature segments filled with eggs, this proportion is about 1:1. Scolex rounded, 280 ju in diameter, with 4 suckers and a rostellum. Hooks absent. Diameter of the suckers 90x100 ju, measurements of the rostellum varying between 93-100x65-75 u. In the musculature of rostellum and in the external parenchyme of the scolex, • respectively, more and few yellowish "calcareous bodies" are seen. These are visible in the external parenchyme layer of the young segments, too. Genital pores localize at one side of the strobila, ventral in the border of the first third of proglottids. Cirrus sac 100-140x 30-50 u, passes across the excretory ducts. Both internal and external seminal vesicle are present, the former is 30-50x50-60 fl, the latter 120x30 ju. The vagina opens into the genital atrium behind the cirrus, forming a large seminal receptacle, 240x50-6 )i in size, extending half of the segment. Testes arranged in a triangle, one being in poral, two in aporal position, either one diagonal tabove the other, or slanted beside the other. They measure in young segments 30x40 ju, in hermaphrodite ones 50x70 ju. Ovary lying in the middle of segments, lobular with two or three lobes. Its dimensions are 180x100 ju. Vitelline gland located in the posterior half ot proglottid in the midline or aporal from that, 40x80 n in size. Two pairs of excretory ducts are present, lumen of the dorsal one is 20 n in diameter, of the ventral one is 30-50 .n. Uterus saccular, and fiUs the entire medullary space of the mature proglottids. Eggs are 38x50 u, embryo is 31x38 u, embryonal hooks are 17 ,u. The anatomy of the worm is showed in the Figure. Discussion Von LINSTOW (1879) described the species Taenia sulcata from Myoxus glis (= Glis glis). JANICKI (1904, 1906) erroneously described the cestode corresponding to T, sulcata von Linstow, 1879 under the name Hymenolepis myoxi (R ud., 1819).
