Clethrionomys glareolus istericus (Miller) Ctenophthalmus obtusus ; Palaeopsylla so ricis rosickyi , Mega bothris turbidus . Though the collected material seems to be inadequate to provide a true picture of the presumably richer flea fauna, I wish to make some remarks. In my earlier studies I recorded the joint occurrence of several flea species on a host (SZABÓ, I969). In the present material Palaeopsylla soricis rosickyi together with Doratopsylla d . dasycnema was observed twice. This is one of the most frequent association experienced in several parts of the country on Sorex-, Crocidura-, Neomys- and Clethrionomys-specie s , but only in hilly and mountainous regions, since Doratopsylla could not be found in the plains. On a Clethrionomys specimen Mega bothris turbidus occurred together with Palaeopsylla soricis . This association has not been observed anywhere else and presumably it occurs only exceptionally, since Palaeopsylla sor.ros . is registered as the specific flea of the Soricids, while Mega bothris occurs mostly on Apodemus-species , though it cannot be the specific flea of any species. The most remarkable joint occurrence was discovered on a Sorex, where the four flea specimens found represented four species: Doratopsylla , Megabothris . Palaeopsylla sor, ros. and Palaeopsylla s. similis . The joint occurrence of four species is rather scarce and this combination has never been experienced before. Doratopsylla and Pa laeopsylla sor, ros . is a frequent association on shrews living in higher habitats, the occurrence of Megabothris on a Sorex is rather unusual, while that of Palaeopsylla s. similis can be explained by the presence of moles in the area. 22*36 % of the 55 captured and 21 recaptured hosts proved infested with fleas. This figure is below the average 35 *06 % rate of infestation of the small mammals in Hungary (SZABÓ, 1972). The reason of this difference is probably the absence of fleas on many recaptured hosts which had carried them when captured 178
