First zoological communication on a complex biosphere investigation termed "Síkfőkút Project" being conducted in Hungary as a part of the UNESCO programme "Man and Biosphere" (MAB). An analysis is given of the faunistical, ecological data and joint occurrences of 59 flea specimens representing 7 species collected from 55 individuals of 4 small mammal species. Future research tasks are also outlined. With the aim of realizing the programme "Man and Biosphere" (MAB) launched at the 16th General Assembly of the UNESCO in 1970, the Botanical Department of the Kossuth Lajos University, Debrecen, marked out a sampling territory near Síkfőkút ("Síkfőkút Project") in the Mts. Bükk, suitable to fulfill the complex research work intended to protect the biosphere. According to the project, Investigations will be made in three phases during a period of 20-22 years (JAKUCS, 1973).
