with and fp incrassate, apiniform, smooth, all other setae ciliate (their proportions as given in Pig. l). Segment H with hair h^ longest of all, hairs h-^ and h^ far removed from it but nearly adjacent to each other; distance between and h^ equalling that between the two h^ hairs. Ventral side (Pig. 3): Epimeral hair lc gradually and clavately incrassate apicad, hair 2c comparatively short as related to the others, straight and rigid. Apodemes on the posterior sternal plate partially developed. Distance between each other of hairs 3a and 3b equal . Legs: Shape and chaetotaxy of leg I given in Pig. 4« Legs II + and III (Pig. 6) with smooth claws, and a transverse striation, characteristic of the genus, present only on leg I. All three hairs of femur acute, thin, weakly ciliate, dT much longer than seta lv" P (Pig. 4). Leg IV (Pig. 2) with four spiniform setae, ld-j^' shorter than lv" T. Examined material: Holotype : Indiana, Vigo Co. Shepard-ville ;20 Nov., 1970. Sylvilagus floridanus (J. A. Allen) (6480); - 1 ex. (Paratype: T-1590-73): Indiana, Vermilion Co., 14 Jan. 1963. Cryptotis parva (Say) (1829). - The holotype is deposited in the National Museum, Washington DC, ++ the par a type in the Collection of Arachnoidea, Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest . + It was found during the investigation that the chaetotaxy and shape of the claws of legs II and III afford very good distinguishing specific features. Especially the femoral chaetotaxy of leg II can be used for specific separation. Prom this point of view, the re-examination of all species seems to be advisable; in the present study and descriptions, I submit the respective details (and figures) in every case. + + In the followings: USHM +++ 'Inthe followings: HHHM
