3. Onitis alexia Klug (= sphinx Har .) A number of 46 adult Onitis alexis Klug (= sphinx Har.), (Col., Scarabaeidae ) were collected both from heaps of organic matter and wet sandy soils at Abu-Rawash. Only 18 insects (at a rate of 39.13 %) were found to be infested with larval nematodes. The insects were collected at various dates during a period beginning in October, 1966 and ending in May, 1967. The nematode larvae were not living beneath the elytra as usually expected, but feeding on the cervical membranes, 35-120 individuals per insect. The nematode larvae isolated from the infested beetles were in the larval III and preadult stages. After extraction with a part of the cervical tissues and placed in drops of distilled water on glass-slides (25 repetitions), Pig. .4 : Heoaplectana bibionis Bovien, 1937 A - Female adult, lateral view.
