2. Lao Cai . The environs of the town are situated on the banks of the Red River, a hilly region of woods and agricultural lands. The following bat species were collected: Coelops frithi (3), Hipoosideros cineraceus (3), Cynopterus sphinx (7). 3. Yen Bai. The countryside, situated at about 200-300 m a.s. 1. on the middle reaches of the Red River, is characterized by low limestone hills covered with woods and with agricultural fields in the plains.The bat species collected are: Rhinolophus cornutus (5),Rhinolophus affinis (4), Rh.inolooh.u3 macrotis (2), Hipposideros armiger (l), Myotis chinensis (l ). 4. Hanoi and its environs. The delta region of the Red River is ah irrigated agricultural area throughout . The bats collected in various building are as follows: Myotis adversus (8), Pipi­strellus abramus (2), Scotophilus temmincki (4), S. heathi (1). Data are known only from the geographically nearest areas such as India, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Australia.
