Hung. 3. 87-96.1970 Two New Scutacarid Mites (Acari, Tarsonemina) from Pogonomyrmex occidentalis (Hymenoptera) in the United States of America Dr. Sándor MAHUNKA Zoological Department of the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest Professor Vernon L. WRANOSKY collected some mite specimens of the family Scutacaridae on individuals and in the nests, respectively, of the ant species Pogonomyrmex occidentalis. In the material received for identification, there were represen­tatives of an Imparipes and a Scutacarus species, both new for science. Their description is as follows. Imparipes (I.) latispinus sp.n. Length: 183 /*, width: 134 Dorsal side (Pig.l): Clypeus large, margin narrow, its 2 humeral pairs of setae unusually short, thin, straight; inner pair arising slightly anteriorly to outer one. Setae dorsales of hysterosomatic hairs extraordinarily incrassate, spiniform. Inner lumbal pair considerably thinner but also spiniform. All other setae normal, ciliate, inner sacral pair longest of all, outer lumbal and outer sacral hairs of equal length. Ventral side (Pig.2): Apodeme 2 well developed on anterior sternal plate, also secondary transversal apodeme well A cernible. Setae coxales I internae and setae coxales II in­ternae long; shortness and thinnes of setae coxales II externae conspicuous. Anterior portion of posterior sternal plate, es­pecially its corner anteriorly to legs III, enlarged, apodeme 4 also thick. Praesternal hairs long, also inner pair reaching
