Dr. Holló Ferenc szerk.: Parasitologia Hungarica 3. (Budapest, 1970)

SZABÓ, L: Museum and Parasitology The author discusses the origins and aim of the Parasitological Collection established in the Hungarian Natural History Museum at the end of 1957« Today four research workers and a technical assistant work in the Collection which is now more than 10 years old. Three research workers deal with helminthology, and one works on ectoparasites. Some numerical data may illustrate the work carried out up to the present: 900 days were spent on collecting in the field; more than 20000 endoand 10000 ectoparasites of 4500 hosts were collected; the majority of the parasites are now identified - 7Q species were found to be new for the fauna of Hungary; about 6000 slides were made and 41 papers published on the results of the investigations. The research workers of the Collection spent 17 months on study trips and attending conferences in the following countries: The Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, the German Democratic Republic, Switzerland, the United Kingdom. The Parasitological Collection received about 4000 reprints and several hundred slides, partly in exchange, partly as gifts, from research workers abroad. An appeal is made to veterinary surgeons, physicians, and parasitologists to submit, subsequent to their work, their research material to the Natural History Museum, where the careful conservation of the material will be assured, besides serving as the basis for further research and enriching the scientific Collection.
