SZÁM 2. kép A söjtöri Deák-kúria, Deák Antal szülőháza napjainkban Summary András Molnár ANTAL DEÁK ACTING AS A SMALL LANDOWNER BETWEEN 1811 AND 1842 Historiography primarily dealt with Antal Deák (1789-1842) a medium landowner nobleman from county Zala as a politician, a special parliamentary envoy and the tutor and model of his younger brother Ferenc Deák. Current study describes the farming activity of Antal Deák be­tween the period of 1811 and 1842. This period bears a special importance because it was him who controlled the family estate during this time. Antal Deák was born in one of the estate centres of the family, in Söjtör in county Zala. He studied at the Piarist grammar school in Kőszeg from 1797, and from the year of 1799 he carried on his studies at a Catholic grammar school in Pápa. Then he went on studying law in Pressburg and at the royal academy in Győr. From 1810 he became an office holder of county Zala, and owing to his talent he later held a higher position as the chief leader of the county administration (in Hungarian it is called a dep­uty lieutenant, in Latin vicecomes) between 1828 and 1831.
