HUNGARIAN MISSION TENDING TO THE CZECH PROVINCES AND ITS MEMORY IN THE HUNGARIAN HISTORIC AND CHURCH HISTORIC LITERATURE

The historian-author lectures at the Eötvös Lóránd University in Budapest, an assistant professor at the Department of History of East and Central-Europe and Russia. In his current study he looks at the religious connections between Hungary and Bohemia in the i7~2oth centuries, with special emphasis on the era after 1781. The Order ofTolerance of József II issued in 1781 made the Protestant practice of religion, the Lutheran and Reformed church organisation free in the Austrian, Czech and Moravian provinces in the Habsburg Empire. By the end of 1784,1015 Protestant parishes had formed. Besides evangelic priests from North-Hungary, students of theology delegated by the reformed colleges and the reformed priests applied for the mission also took part in the organization work. A certain part of the second generation studied in Hungarian reformed colleges (among others in Debrecen, Pápa, Sárospatak) and took role in the Czech national movement.
