SZÁM Summary József Köblös EXMISSION, ORDAINMENT AND CONSECRATION Steps to gain a parish in the Dunántúl Reformed Church in the 17-18™ centuries The first part of this study was published in the i-2nd issue of the 2016 paper. This second part describes the detailed way of becoming a clergyman in the 18th century and also gives a rough picture of the history of the 19th century based on specialist literature and on archive sources. The period between 1715 and 1781 can be considered as special because the 31st of 1715 act prohibited having church meetings, and in this way ordainment, exmission for the chaplains at the dean meeting as well as consecrations for the would-be clergymen at the superintendentia meeting became much more difficult. The bishop and the deans called meetings at different names at which they managed to ordain and place the chaplains and the clergymen. After the Edict of Tolerance issued by József the 2nd, the council and the dean meeting became legal, but no unified regulation was formed concerning exmission, ordainment and consecration of the would-be clergymen. In 1790, the superintendentia provided the clergymen with jobs, in 1887 it regulated the final examination of the students of divinity in a detailed way. Following this, they had to take the first examination after the fourth year, and the second one three years later before a committee. (In this way the qualifying procedure was taken away from the dean and superintendentia’s authority.) The way of becoming a clergyman was regulated by the reformed church laws issued in 1881 and 1893 as well as by the official liturgy introduced in 1927. 91
