Summary JÓZSEF KÖBLÖS Exmission, ordination, consecration Steps to gain a priestly office in the Transdanubian Reformed Diocese in the 17-18th centuries The author who is the archivist and the senior researcher of the Transdanubian Reformed Diocese carries out research in church history in the Middle Ages and Modern Times. He has contributed to compile priestly and educational biographies, and also to publishing records and documents. His current study using specialist literature and archival sources including canons, reports, documents, and priesthood diplomas examines the process of becoming a reformed priest in the 17-18th centuries. In the relatively peaceful times before 1660, a young man choosing the profession of a priest was - after finishing his studies and passing his examinations - selected and called by the parish on the basis of church law, was inducted in his position by the senior priest, then at the mass held on the second day of the next synodus he was ordained a priest by imposing hands on him by the superintendent and the seniors. Religious persecution started after 1660, no sessions were allowed to hold after 1715, thus no superintendets could be elected. In this extrordinary situation seniors were entitled with the authority of the superintendent, they issued the diplomas for the priests. It was also them who took care of accommoditing priests who had to wait for their consecration until the new superintendent was elected. » 156 «
