MŰHELY Acta Papensia XV (2015) 3-4. Summary TIBOR VAJS Sándor Venetianer - a real reformed priest The study shows the special career of Sándor Venetianer (1853-1902) a reformed priest, a theologian, and a missionary by using specialist literature, documents stored in church archives, his diaries and his printed works. Born as a son of Albert Venetianer a Jewish rabbi but at the age of 20 he confronted his father and turned to reformed faith. He learned to be a reformed priest in Vienna, Bázel and Debrecen, and between 1878 and 1902, he worked as a priest in multinational settlements (Pancsova/Pantschowa, Újsóvé/Neuschowe, Rohrbach, Trieste). In Trieste, in the seaport of the Habsburg-monarchy, he paralelly used the Hungarian, German, Italian, Deutsch and French languages in his work. He took part in the translation work of the new reformed Hungarian Bible, which was published in 1908. All of his three sons became reformed priests but all of them died very early. His younger brother Lajos Venetianer (1867-1922) was a scholarly rabbi and a well-know historian who wrote the history of the Hungarian Jews. KÉPEK 2. kép: Pancsova 1.
