MŰHELY Acta Papensia XV (2015) 3-4. Summary JÓZSEF GELENCSÉR Death of a soldier In the loft History, folklore, folk legal customs Legal historian József Gelencsér tried to retrace the tragic fate of a Hungarian soldier died in March 1945 by using archival sources and oral history. Born in Sárkeresztes, Fejér County, in a reformed small holder’s family Gábor Örsi (1920-1945) joined the army in 1941 and served at the Hungarian anti-aircraft artillery. Towards the end of the war he was given a leaf but in spite of his father’s order he didn’t join his unit but was hiding. The Soviet troops occupied Székesfehérvár and Sárkeresztes in heavy battles on 22nd March, 1945. When the inhabitants fled from the battle returned to their village, they found Örsi’s dead body in his family’s loft. Either he committed suicide or was shot dead by the Soviet troops - the truth lacking witnesses never came to light. The author shows how the war changed the life of the people in the village, the behaviour of the people, their habits, and what narratives were born to explain the mysterious death of the young man. 1. kép Sárkeresztesi legények 1941-ben (Örsi Gábor, Mészáros Károly, Szűcs Lajos, Örsi János) » 288 «
