Fekete Gábor színigazgató levele a Pápai Kaszinó főigazgatójához. Balatonfüred, 1841. július 29. Summary József Hudi Gábor Fekete's Theatrical Company in 1841 In the history of the Hungarian theatrical art, health resorts play a significant role as venues for touring theatrical companies to give performances to the guests in the high seasons. Balatonfüred, located in the Dunántúl region, was among the most outstanding health spas in Hungary before 1848, which healed sick people with its springs of mineral water. Those being healthy could take a bath in the bathing cabins set up on lake Balaton, could row and sail in the lake or had the chance to take trips in the surroundings. In the high season, lasting from May to September, those that stayed at the spa belonged to the political élite and to the middle-class of the country, and they enjoyed the performances in the evenings at the theatre with 400 seats built in 1831. Gábor Fekete’s theatrical company consisted of 36 members in 1841 and was able to perform operas, as well. They performed in the towns of Győr, Székesfehérvár, Komárom and Pápa and also in Balatonfüred health resort. They mostly performed comedies and musical plays, but they also presented illusionists and dancers. They rarely performed a play twice so their repertoire was broad. The study introduces the company, their route, and performances. Also, it includes four letters written by director Gábor Fekete which help us take an insight into the everyday life of organizing the theatre, and the life of the artists.
