This very publication is one of the results of his researches in which he surveys the guilds in Pápa during the 16th and 18th centuries alongside with the profession in general. He enumerates the guilds which had actually functioned in Pápa as attested by written documents: tailors (1510), fullers (1608), barbers, carpenters and rifle-makers (1661) and potters (1726). He introduces the religious life of the guilds, their spiritual complexion and their services. Futhennore, he details the moral requirements to be observed by the guild-members, together with the punishments in case of contraventions. He emphasizes that guilds were organisations safeguarding their members? interest and they took pains to cover the social care of the members together with their dependents. 264 ActaPapensiaII (2002) 3-4.
