(Second parti The town of Pápa located in Northem-Transdanubia had already been the faithful adherent of the Reformation in the 1530s and remained so during the 17th century. The new proprietor, the Count Esterházy family, who appeared in the first third of the 17th century, however, supported the Catholic restoration, and attempted to reconvert the absolutely Calvinist population of the town to Catholic Church with various methods. Their attempt was so successful that the mere existence of the Calvinist Church was in danger by the 1710s. At the initiative of the landlord, the Hungarian king Charles III in his decree of 5th November 1718 had prohibited the free religious practice of the Calvinist residents in the town of Pápa, but those who were affected protested against it. With the support of noblemen, they ashieved that the dismissal of the ministers and the delivery of keys had to be postponed up until another decision of the king. The second part of the paper dicloses the documents from the years of 1718- 19, which served the preparations for the subsequent royal decision. 252 Acta Papensia 1 (2001) 3-4.
