Seventeen thousand meters of historical source/Introduction of the main archives

units of economic-, public health- and vocational school committees' were preserved, and only fragmentarily. Beside the mayor's office some special offices were operating as well: the documents of the Board of guardians dealing with guardianship represent a rich treasury for the social and family historical researches; in the archive unit of the engineering office documents of countless public and private constructions can be found; the documents ol the public money, auditorial matters and tax office, recorded the why and the wherefore of the citizens' and the town's economy. In the documents of the local officer of legitimacy, the officer procurator, we can research the legal cases concerning the town, in the medical officer's we can look into the situation of health and social affairs and institutions, and in the veterinary documents we can research the animal health situation. Regarding the historical past of the town other units, preserved in our archives are also available for the researchers. These will be referred to in the different main archive units. Finally we have to mention two villages separately; both of them being represented by rich documentation in this main archive unit: in case of Tök and Törökbálint large villages a considerable amount of archive (11,86, and 26,24 1m) is at the disposal of the researchers. Among the surviving records, circular letters, different registrations, inheritance, army, servicemen's welfare, population trends, property-registry, budgetary, etc. documents give us a picture from the beginning of the 19 th century about the life of the two settlements.
