Seventeen thousand meters of historical source/Introduction of the main archives
^0 apart from the records, we have only a few documents in our Archives from the age of the market town. From the year when it became a large-village (írom 1872) we dispose of more colourful material. From the village prefecture, e.g. írom the years between 1872 and 1944 we received more than 33 linear meter to look after. All the records of the representative body (general assembly) and the commoners (until 1950) have fully survived except a few years; however, the records of the council boards originating before 1921 got into our archives' possession. The registered documents of the village are also fragmentary; the incompleteness of the documents is especially obvious after the year of 1945. Ráckeve. It was a market town until 1872, after that it became a large-village. As a market town it was under the governing of the chief justice, whose work was supported by the council. As a large-village it belonged under the government of the town council. Its oldest document is from 1574 (property census), but in a volume dated 1782 the text copies of diplomas generated between 1405 and 1781 were left. Until 1950 inclusively the settlement had hardly more than 10 linear meters of material. The most valuable parts are the records of the council board, the circular letters and the boundary rides. From the age of the town council - village there are hardly any significant documents left. For example, records of the town council are available only from the years 1877-1880, the administrative archives almost completely perished, we are taking care only of the register books and the index books, which are also incomplete.
