THE ACTIVITY OF THE CENTRE OF LIBRARY SCIENCE AND METHODOLOGY IN THE YEARS 1984-1985 When comparing our results with our working plans for these years, it can be staled that we have fulfilled all principal pledges. The Centre performed its obligations laid down in its organizatory and functional rules. Both continuous services and occasional tasks were successfully fulfilled. The atmosphere was good. The cooperation between the members of the staff and the particular seclions was effective. The board of directors maintained good relations with the social organs. As a rule, the board of directors discussed the reports on work and working conditions every second week. Unanimous decisions were made in all fundamental questions relating to administration, distribution of work, finances and personnel. Studies dealing with the general activity of the Centre or even with librarianship in a broader sense were discussed in open debates in order lo enable all colleagues to express their opinions. Our external relations, loo, are hopeful. We have expansive relations with the public and with libraries, though as lo this latter, there arc some deficiencies lo be amended. Traditionally, wc arc connected by closest ties with public libraries and their maintaining bodies. Besides, our task of supervision connects us with university and high school libraries and special libraries as well. We were active in playing the role of secretariates of several organs and committees as, e.g., National Library Council, Information Working Committee of Social Sciences, Hungarian Committee of International Music Library Association, Preparatory Committee of Hungarian National Phone Archives, Preparatory Committee of Scientific Qualification of Library, Councils of Directors of District/University/High School Libraries, Standing Committee of Training and Post-Graduatc Courses of Librarians,Classification Committee of National Library Council. As regards international relations, exchange of informations, visits and participations in conferences went on in the usual way. 13 persons in 1984 and 19 persons in 1985 went abroad lo study tours. Special stress should be laid upon the thorough work of the staff of the Special Library of Library Science. They did their best in the moving to the new home of the Library. During the moving wc did not stop the fundamental services. Our publications of documentation were edited. The main points of development were the introduction of audio-visual technique, methodological instructions to acquisition and use of audio-visual documents, preparations to the seventh five years plan. We think, our undertakings in instruction and post-graduate training together with the publication of the necessary text-books were satisfactory. The same can be said of the methodological and editorial work done in compiling the study-aids. The central publicity activity became more conspicuous and was raised to a higher level. Wc have organized an international exhibition of posters as a part of the European Cultural Forum with great success. 117
